Since 1988 I have been working on research in computer science. In 1995-96 I was ``Profesional Adjunto'' at Universidad del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires.
During my stay at the California Institute of Technology I have been a member of the Caltech Concurrent Computation Program. My advisor at the time was its director, Prof. Geoffrey C. Fox.
1987, Licenciado, Physics, Departamento de Fisica , Universidad Nacional de La Plata , Argentina.
1988-1989, Full-Time Graduate Student (Visiting), California Institute of Technology , USA.
I think education is never completed and hardly rated by your degrees and grades. However, I subscribe: ``If you think Education is expensive, try ignorance'' . Click here for a list of other graduate courses.
Optimization, Combinatorial Optimization, Approximation algorithms, Heuristic and Metaheuristic approaches for large scale problems. Proper evaluation of Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search, Genetic Algoritms and Memetic Algorithms.
Parallel Computing and Computational Complexity.
Machine learning and self-organizing systems (including neural networks).
Computational Physics, Physics of Information, Physical and Biological Computation.
Referee: Although it is not a full-time activity, I must remark that during
the last
years I was selected as referee of publications submitted to
the journals
``Concurrency, Practice and Experience'',
``Discrete Applied Mathematics'',
``Computers and Operations Research'',
``Proceedings of Supercomputing '91'',
``European Journal of Operational Research'',
``Chaos, Solitons and Fractals'',
Rotary International - (with a contribution of
the California Institute of Technology). To do research on
``Collective Computational Properties of Neural Networks''.
Four times selected by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics
to attend several Colleges and Workshops.
In 1995 I won a fellowship of the ``Comission Federale des Bourses
pour Etudiants Etrangers'' of Switzerland for one year at the
Department of Mathematics, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne,
Switzerland. I had to resign it for personal matters.
F. Tinetti, Diploma thesis presented at La Plata University, Department of
Informatics (similar to a M.Sc. Thesis in Computer Science).
Title: ``Metaheuristics for Combinatorial Optimization
Problems'' (presented, October 1992).
R. Figueroa, Diploma thesis on off-line character recognition. It features a
new method for coding segmented characters and a neural network classifier.
It was presented in October 1993 at the Department of Informatics,
La Plata Univesity.
Visiting Profesor,
Universidade Estadual de Campinas,
Faculdade de Engenharia Eletrica e de Computacao,
Departamento de Engenharia de
Sistemas,
Course on Metaheuristics for Combinatorial Optimization Problems,
a 60-hours course valid for 4 credits for Ph.D. students.
``Profesor Adjunto, Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de
Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas'', 1995-96. Course on
``Computacion en Paralelo'' (Parallel Computing).
Teaching Assistant, ``Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Facultad de Ciencias
Exactas'', 1987-88 (Calculus).

In March 1986, I finished my first short-film from which I am also script
writer. It was presented out of the contest in the Festival of Cine
Independiente de Villa Gessel, and later it was finalist in the contest
called ``Semana Baires". In December 1987, this film called
``Comunicacion", was awarded with the first prize in the ``Coca-Cola in Art
and Sciences" contest, an annual contest which in Cinematography is given
rougly every 10 years.
During the Summer of 1992,
Reimar Hofmann completed a project proposal which
I wrote in collaboration with M.G. Norman
for the
Edinburgh Parallel Computer Centre . It was called ``Parallel
Evolutionary Trayectories'' and is a method for proyecting trayectories in
high dimensional spaces in virtual 3D or 2D. This tool permits the
visualization of the evolution of a memetic algorithm and helps to understand
the diferent crossover operators used. The project was directed in Edinburgh
by Michael G. Norman.
